BSNL to offer 8 mbps connectivity soon

Its time to celebrate again and luck pours for BSNL broadband customers as the company shortly planned to release a new scheme called Three-in-one `Broadband Multiplay’ which includes a single package of voice, video and Internet protocol television (IPTV) services.

You all might have already experiencing the new whooping 2 mbps speed now which they have announced shortly but to again surprise you their new technology will enable  the connectivity speed of up to goddamn “8 mbps” (Please believe me).  When comparing developed countries, this speed doesn’t count but when it happens in India, its good news to share up.

The new package is all about ON-DEMAND service by which the provider will install a set-box in your place. The Hindu reports that this new services will be launched in 789 cities shortly. Great news is that your ADSL copper wire connectivity will soon be replaced by new futuristic technology, `Fiber to the home,’ which was in the final stage of technical valuation. Seem like my post about the Free Internet for everyone likely to be hinted.

    This is a good news. But they haven’t really provided even 2Mbps speed for unlimited plan users. Hope they give out 8Mbps plans without “disconnections”. They don’t provide proper customer support at all 🙁 And giving an 8mbps speed with limits is any use? :S

    I go sideways with Shankar Ganesh.

    Yeah, they don’t provide stable Internet connection and they don’t have the technology to do it. So, whatever speed they might increase, it’s absolutely no point as we don’t have a stable internet connection in that also.

    Also, their current 2 Mbps is just a advertising joke. All their plans tell us that the maximum we can get is 2 Mbps. There’s absolutely no assurance that we get 2 Mbps in any plan they offer. That’s really nice bit of advertising trick they played.

    So, I don’t think even this 8 Mbps is going to any change.

    I better be left with Reliance who actually provide the reliable internet connection as of now in India.

    Well, like Shankar and Srinvasan said… providing 8 mbps or 10 mbps doesn’t make any sense, unless they remove the bandwidth caps and provide this service to folks on unlimited.

    I’ve been using Airtel at my office (currently) and what I like about Airtel is that they provide Asymmetric upload and download speed, which is not the case with BSNL.

    By Asymmetric, I mean… I get upto 32 mbps of upload speed with a same download speed. At home (BSNL) I hardly get around 8 mbps of upload speed which kinds sucks!

    In my opinion all broadband connections other than BSNL suck.I Use certain softwares that allows me use bandwidth judiciously between 2 to 8 only which is the free browsing hours of BSNL. 90GB download per month for Rs.500 is quite acceptable which is possible only in BSNL.

    First BSNL should improve the 2mbps scheme.They have failed to provide the proper speed, at least in my case.And their expert staff could not rectify my problem.

    I am using Bsnl Home 500 (2 Mbps Night Unlimited [ 2.00 am to 8.00 am ] )
    I think it is the very good package I ger up to 240 to 270 Kbps in Http Download I think it is good speed……..

    I get only 32 kbps download speed in 2006 Now it is about 240 to 270 !!! It is very very Gooooood….

    But My Line Condition is very bad when i started in 2006 . auto Disconnect every 3 seconds …. i complained by calling 198 No response But i complained in bsnl.co.in Phone billing portal the response is very good they come to my house and check line removed old lines in my house also digg the road and replace the lines…….. Also Tell the SDA ” Never complaint in portal Just call me ” and give his office telephone number number ……. Now iam happy……. 🙂

    BSNL IS NOT OFFERING THE PROMISED SPEED I M GETTING ONLY 50-60KB/S DOWNLOADING SPEED WHICH WAS PREVIOUSLY 125-150KB/S

    bsnl connection is most stable only unstable is ur mind assholes bsnl is the the provider and NIB under him so if any time NIB kik airtel then no internet for AIrtel .

    To all those unsatisfied souls, I wish to say that enjoy what ever comes to your way.
    I ve been using BSNL dataone for 2 years and I am more then satisfied.
    I live in a small city where so called “Airtel” or “Sify” or Tatas dare not come to. I get speeds of 200 kbps + in 2 to 8 time.
    To all people who complain of getting charged of night usage,I suggest loging in at 2.15 and log out at 7.45.
    I download 3 GB+ everynight and I am more then satisfied.
    I put download scheduler and good sleep to find completed files in morning..
    In 2 years I had downtime of 3 days only.
    Good job, Three Cheers for PSUs.

    We are still far far away in getting the best bandwidth that people in other countries like Sweden and Finland enjoy. Check this article to learn more on this. I also spoke to one of my trainer from sweden and while talking I found he has 100 MBPS bandwidth and he is able to download around 400 to 500 MB files in just less than half an hour or so. That shows where we stand and also the service provided by most ISP sucks and even with the best bandwdith available for home users it takes long time for anyone who wants to download DVD movies or huge size files and most users choose to download files of less size which mostly comes with low quality output like when downloading movie files or go for compessed formats like rmvb. Also, when they tend to download torrents which is DVD ripped, they end up downloading fakes which is very frustrating as it might have taken a looong time for them to download it. It would probably take 20 years or more for us to obtain such bandwidth here and then the world would have moved to the next horizon and still we will find such topics in blogs where people say we are about to get the best bandwidth…. http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Homes_in_Finland_get_100_Mbps_internet_connection

    Bsnl just plainly sucks no other words :/ wtf is with 7kbps speed? how the hell am i supposed to maintain my ratios on private trackers.. :/ its just sad that 500 rs guys get 2mbs speed n the 900rs ul plan guys dont even get a decent upload speed . Moreover the downtime is a lot as they should have backup servers and all and The net was down here for more than a week for upgradation procedures which never came by .. so plainly bsnl should not provide net if they cant do it properly… god these guys dont even know what dns servers are :/

    BSNL is in the process of commissioning of a world class, multi-gigabit, multi-protocol, convergent IP infrastructure through National Internet Backbone-II (NIB-II), that will provide convergent services through the same backbone and broadband access network. The Broadband service will be available on DSL technology (on the same copper cable that is used for connecting telephone), on a countrywide basis spanning 198 cities.

    In terms of infrastructure for broadband services NIB-II would put India at par with more advanced nations. The services that would be supported includes always-on broadband access to the Internet for residential and business customers, Content based services, Video multicasting, Video-on-demand and Interactive gaming, Audio and Video conferencing, IP Telephony, Distance learning, Messaging: plain and feature rich, Multi-site MPLS VPNs with Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees. The subscribe will be able to access the above services through Subscriber Service Selection System (SSSS) portal.

    Key Objectives
    To provide high speed Internet connectivity (upto 8 Mbps)
    To provide Virtual Private Network (VPN) service to the broadband customers
    To provide dial VPN service to MPLS VPN customers.
    To provide multicast video services, video-on-demand, etc. through the Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS).
    To provide a means to bill for the aforesaid services by either time-based or volume-based billing. It shall provide the customer with the option to select the services through web server
    To provide both pre-paid and post paid broadband services
    Technical Capability of the Backbone The Broadband Service will be given through the state of the art Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) based IP Infrastructure, which is designed to provide reliable routes to cover all possible destinations within and outside the country. Layer 1 of the network will consist of a high speed Backbone comprising of 24 powerful Core Routers connected with high speed 2.5 Gbps(STM-16) links. The routers are located on the national DWDM network interfacing at STM-16 optical level to provide for high transmission speeds. What advantage does MPLS have over other Technologies? MPLS VPN is a technology that allows a service provider like BSNL to have complete control over parameters that are critical to offering its customers service guarantees with regard to bandwidth throughputs, latencies and availability. Services available through Broadband
    High speed Internet Access: This is the always-on Internet access service with speed ranging from 256 kbps to 8 Mbps.
    Bandwidth on Demand: This will facilitate customer to change bandwidth as per his / her requirement. For example a customer with 256 kbps can change to 1 Mbps during the video Conferencing session.
    Multicasting: This is to provide video multicast services for application in distance education, telemedicine etc
    Dial VPN Service: This service allows remote users to access their private network securely over the NIB-II infrastructure.
    Video and Audio Conferencing:
    Content based Services: Like Video on Demand, Interactive Gaming, Live and time shifted TV

    hey thats gr8 news….i already read that…their up gradation to NIB 2 will provide….

    i m shocked wid people saying they don’t get 2Mbps speed ……i don’t knw whts problem……

    may be they might be confused with 2Mbps means 2Mega bits/sec…..so final speed is 250KBps (Kilo BYTES…)

    and saying actually i get abt 2.4Mbps speed …..so i get downloads @abt 290-340KB/s which is excellent….

    i m pround of BSNL…..

    and abt support yea…..i do agree their support is NOT upto the level…

    BUT

    u must understand being a Governmental company it takes time…..u just can’t can’t expect ….much…but still they are giving and i like it….+ their NIB 1 is stable also……chkout downtimes…..its very less….as compared to Reliance…..

    and regarding cost…in US a 2Mbps DSL costs abt $45/mn

    think……hw chep here we hav……and thats NOT unlimited i agree BUT that is ONLY and ONLY to control people…..think urslef……hw can BSNL give u a stable service if u keep on downloading GB’s of data a day…..

    and for developers like me…we hav plan 500….so just schduling heavy downloads for night wrks out the problem….

    i rate 4.7/5 for BSNL’s netwrk…

    bsnl are the fucker they only give maximum 256kbps speed and 10kbps of downloading speed if you want to download 30kbps than download internet download manager i promise you it will gave you full satisfaction

    hey bsnl truly rocks…im using bsnl right from the start..its been some 2 yrs since i started using bsnl….i was using the 500 plan and it rocks…2 mbps is megabits per second not megabyte..i think many who have commented abv shld know that bfore questioning bsnl….ur speed also depends on the server from which ur downloadin and also the application that ur using to download those files….try download sometin from microsoft.com or adobe.com ull def get a speed of 230 to 240 kbps per second if ur using a 500(256kbps-2mpbs)plan…if ur using a 900ul plan the download speed will be around 30-35 kbps/sec…..i think some ppl download from stupid and slow servers thereby gettin v low dl speeds…so pls dont blame the isp for all this….btw airtel and tataindicom is more expensive compared to bsnl….stupid airtel ppl charge u like anytin…i hate private sectors cos they can charge or increase the tarrif whenever they want..but weras in govt organization that happens rarely….so bsnl rocks…!!!!
